Pilates Machine Russian Squat

Standing on a Pilates reformer holding the straps, sink into a squat with the arms reaching forward, then stand and draw the straps down to the thighs.

How to do it

Setup

Standing on the carriage facing the straps, feet hip-width, a strap in each hand, arms long by the thighs.

Steps

  1. Sit back into a squat as the straight arms rise forward to shoulder height.
  2. Keep the heels down and the knees over the toes.
  3. Drive up to standing, pulling the straps down to the thighs.

Common mistakes

Heels lifting off the carriage: sit back so the weight stays over the whole foot. Bending the elbows on the pull: keep the arms straight. Rushing on a moving carriage: slow and controlled both ways.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
