Low Lunge Yoga Pose Anjaneyasana I
The kneeling hip flexor lunge with the arms raised overhead and the chest lifting into a gentle backbend, which lengthens the whole front of the body; held for time.
How to do it
Setup
Kneeling lunge, the back knee down on something soft, the front knee over the ankle, hands on the front thigh.
Steps
- Sink the hips forward and down until the front of the back hip stretches.
- Sweep the arms overhead and lift the chest into a gentle arch, and hold.
- Lower the hands to the floor, then switch legs.
Common mistakes
Front knee traveling past the toes: step the front foot farther forward. Arching from the lower back: lift the chest and lengthen the tailbone instead. Back knee grinding on a hard floor: pad it with a folded mat.
Breathing
Slow and even through the hold.
