High Jump Rope
Skipping with a big jump each turn, both knees drawn up toward the chest as the rope passes; far more work for the legs and the trunk than low steady jumps.
How to do it
Setup
Rope sized so the handles reach the armpits when stood on; elbows in.
Steps
- Jump high off both feet as the rope comes over.
- Pull both knees up toward the chest while the rope passes under.
- Land softly on the balls of the feet and go straight into the next jump.
Common mistakes
Landing on straight legs: bend the knees to soak up every jump. Rope turning slower than the jump: spin faster from the wrists as the knees come up. Hunching over the knees: pull the knees up to the chest, not the chest down to the knees.
Breathing
Exhale on every jump; keep the rhythm.
