High Dumbbell Fly
A low-to-high fly on a steep incline: the bells swing up from beside the hips until they meet above the eyes, and the top of the chest and the front shoulders do the work.
How to do it
Setup
Steep incline bench, back on the pad, bells hanging beside the hips, palms forward.
Steps
- Arc the bells forward and up until they meet above the eyes.
- Keep the elbows soft and the back on the pad.
- Bring them down to the hips, slower than they rose.
Common mistakes
Throwing the bells up with a heave: glutes stay on the seat and the arms lift. Arching off the pad to reach higher: the back stays on it. Clashing the bells above the head: bring them in softly.
Breathing
Exhale on the sweep up, inhale lowering.
