Feet and Ankles Side to Side Stretch

Standing, the weight shifts from foot to foot while each heel in turn peels up as its knee bends forward; a gentle loosener for the feet and ankles.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, arms relaxed at the sides.

Steps

  1. Bend one knee forward and peel that heel up onto the ball of the foot.
  2. Set the heel down as the other knee bends and its heel rises.
  3. Keep swapping in an easy rhythm, the upper body quiet.

Common mistakes

Stamping from foot to foot: it is a loosener; keep it soft. Hips swinging wide: the knees and ankles move, the pelvis stays over the feet. Locking the standing knee: keep it soft as the other heel lifts.

Breathing

Steady with the rhythm.
