Dumbbell Wall Squat

Squat with the back sliding down a wall and a dumbbell hanging at each side; the wall keeps the torso upright and the thighs do the work.

How to do it

Setup

Back flat on the wall, feet a step in front of it and shoulder-width, a dumbbell hanging at each side.

Steps

  1. Slide down the wall until the thighs are parallel.
  2. Keep the shins near vertical and the bells hanging still.
  3. Push the floor away and slide back up.

Common mistakes

Feet too close to the wall: the knees shoot past the toes; step out. Back peeling off the wall at the bottom: keep it pressed flat. Bells resting on the thighs: let them hang at the sides.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
