Dumbbell Chest-Supported Lateral Raises

Face down on an incline bench, the straight arms raise the bells out to the sides; unlike the rear-delt raise with bent elbows, the arms stay long.

How to do it

Setup

Chest on an incline bench, knees on the seat, bells hanging under the shoulders, arms straight.

Steps

  1. Raise the straight arms out to the sides to shoulder height.
  2. Keep the chest on the pad and the neck long.
  3. Lower the bells under the shoulders slowly.

Common mistakes

Elbows bending as the bells rise: keep the arms long; bent, it turns into a rear-delt raise. Chest lifting off the pad to swing the bells up: stay down and go lighter. Shrugging at the top: shoulders away from the ears.

Breathing

Exhale opening the arms, inhale lowering.
