Decline Crunch

On a decline bench with the feet hooked, curl the shoulders toward the hips; the angle makes the top half harder.

Decline Crunch, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

On the decline bench, feet hooked, hands at the temples.

Steps

  1. Curl the shoulders toward the hips.
  2. Stop short of a full sit-up.
  3. Lower until the abs stretch on the decline.

Common mistakes

Pulling with the hip flexors to vertical: the crunch ends at the ribs' curl. Neck cranking: chin free. Dropping into the stretch: control down the slope.

Breathing

Exhale on the crunch, inhale lowering.
