Calf Forward Jump

Stiff-ankled two-footed hops traveling forward, the calves doing the jumping; small springs, not long jumps.

How to do it

Setup

Feet together, hands on the hips, standing tall with the knees almost straight.

Steps

  1. Spring a short way forward off the balls of both feet.
  2. Land on the balls of the feet and spring again at once.
  3. Keep the knees nearly straight so the ankles do the work.

Common mistakes

Bending the knees for longer hops: short hops off stiff ankles are the drill. Heels dropping on each landing: stay up on the balls of the feet. Leaning forward to travel: the chest stays over the feet.

Breathing

Fast steady rhythm.
