Cable Standing Hip Thrust

Facing a low pulley with the handle at arm's length, squat deep, then stand and drive the hips forward against the cable's pull.

How to do it

Setup

Facing the low pulley a step or two back, the handle in both hands at arm's length, feet shoulder-width.

Steps

  1. Sit into a deep squat, the arms reaching toward the pulley.
  2. Stand and drive the hips forward, the arms long.
  3. Squeeze the glutes at the top, then sink back into the squat.

Common mistakes

Rowing the handle in: the arms stay long; the hips move the stack. Weight tipping onto the toes: sit back into the heels. Leaning far back at the top: stand tall, ribs down.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale driving up.
