Cable Romanian Deadlift
The Romanian deadlift standing back from the low pulley; the cable's forward pull keeps tension on the hips even at the top.
How to do it
Setup
Facing the low pulley a step or two away, a straight bar in an overhand grip, arms long, knees soft.
Steps
- Hinge until the torso nears horizontal, arms following the cable.
- Brace against the forward pull, back flat.
- Squeeze the glutes to stand up against the cable.
Common mistakes
Standing too close: the cable runs vertical and the variant is lost; step back. Letting the stack pull you onto the toes: weight over the mid-foot and heels. Bending the arms to help: they only hold; the hips do the work.
Breathing
Inhale as the hips go back, exhale driving up.
