Barbell Reverse Preacher Curl

The preacher curl with a straight bar in an overhand grip; the pad fixes the upper arms, so the brachioradialis lifts without help from the body.

How to do it

Setup

Seated at the preacher bench, armpits over the pad, upper arms flat on it, bar held overhand.

Steps

  1. Raise the bar with the knuckles up, upper arms flat.
  2. Stop where the forearms stand upright.
  3. Lower slowly, stopping just short of locked elbows.

Common mistakes

Dropping into locked elbows at the bottom: stop just short; the joint takes the strain there. Using the underhand preacher weight: overhand, the arms lift much less. Shoulders hunching over the pad: sit tall, chest against it.

Breathing

Exhale on the curl, inhale lowering.
