Barbell Lying Close-Grip Overhand Row on Rack

The barbell seal row with the hands close together and overhand; the narrow grip keeps the elbows near the body on the way up.

How to do it

Setup

Face down on a bench set high on a rack, the bar below on long arms, hands close and overhand.

Steps

  1. Pull the bar up to the underside of the bench, elbows close to the body.
  2. Squeeze the shoulder blades together at the touch.
  3. Lower to long arms with the chest kept on the pad.

Common mistakes

Hands creeping wider on the bar: keep the close grip every rep. Chest lifting off the bench to reach higher: stay flat; the bench is the finish line. Dropping the bar: lower it under control.

Breathing

Exhale on the row, inhale lowering.
