Barbell Incline Rear Delt Row

The incline barbell row with a wide grip and flared elbows, pulled high toward the chest; the rear delts take over from the lats.

How to do it

Setup

Chest on an incline bench, feet braced, the bar hanging below in an overhand grip well outside shoulder-width.

Steps

  1. Row the bar up, the elbows flaring out to the sides.
  2. Stop as the bar nears the top of the bench, elbows high.
  3. Lower the bar to a full hang without lifting the chest.

Common mistakes

Grip at shoulder-width: the elbows drift back to the ribs; take the bar wide. Pulling the bar to the belly: that is the lat row's line; aim it high, under the chest. Legs pushing the chest up the pad: the feet only brace; the arms and blades move the bar.

Breathing

Exhale on the row, inhale lowering.
