Barbell Hang Clean High Pull
The clean high pull started from the hang: from the thighs, a hip snap drives the bar up to the chest with the elbows high and out, no catch.
How to do it
Setup
Standing tall, bar at the thighs in a clean grip just wider than the shoulders, knees soft.
Steps
- Dip the hips back until the bar reaches just above the knees.
- Snap the hips through and pull the bar up the body, elbows high and out.
- Stop with the bar at the chest, then lower it to the thighs.
Common mistakes
Pulling with the arms before the hips finish: the hip snap moves the bar; the arms keep it rising. Bar swinging away from the body: keep it brushing the thighs and close up the torso. Dipping into a squat: it is a short hinge, not a knee bend.
Breathing
Inhale in the dip, exhale on the pull.
