Barbell Floor Press

Lying on the floor, lower the bar until the upper arms touch down, pause, and press up; the floor caps the range and spares the shoulders.

Barbell Floor Press, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Lying on the floor under the rack's bar, knees bent, blades pinched.

Steps

  1. Lower the bar until the upper arms touch the floor.
  2. Pause dead on the floor.
  3. Press to lockout from the stop.

Common mistakes

Bouncing the arms: the dead stop is the lift's soul. Elbows slamming down: place them, silent. Hips bridging: they stay down; this is upper-body only.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale pressing from the pause.
