Archer Push-Up

A wide push-up in which the body travels toward one hand while the other arm straightens out to the side, switching sides each rep; a step toward the one-arm push-up.

How to do it

Setup

High plank with the hands much wider than the shoulders, fingers turned slightly out, feet hip-width.

Steps

  1. Bend one arm and lower the chest toward that hand.
  2. Let the other arm straighten out to the side as a brace.
  3. Press back to the middle, then lower toward the other hand.

Common mistakes

Bending the straight arm to help: it stays long and only steadies. Hips twisting toward the working side: keep them square to the floor. Hands too close for the side shift: set them wide before the first rep.

Breathing

Inhale lowering, exhale pressing.
