Assisted Lying Hip Stretch in Supine Position

A standing partner presses both of your bent knees toward your chest; the buttocks and the lower back lengthen together.

How to do it

Setup

On your back, both knees bent toward the chest, a partner standing at your feet with the hands on your shins.

Steps

  1. Let the partner lean slowly onto your shins, bringing the knees toward the chest.
  2. Say stop as soon as the buttocks or the lower back stretch clearly.
  3. Hold and breathe, then have the partner ease off slowly.

Common mistakes

Partner pressing in jerks: steady body weight, no bouncing. Hips rolling up toward the head: ease the push until the lower back rests on the floor again. Holding the breath against the pressure: breathe out and let the knees come in.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
