Alternate Punching
Standing square, punch straight ahead with one fist and then the other at shoulder height, pulling each back to the chest; an air-punching drill logged by time.
How to do it
Setup
Standing, feet shoulder-width, knees soft, fists up at the chest, elbows in.
Steps
- Punch one fist straight forward at shoulder height.
- Pull it back to the chest as the other fist punches out.
- Keep alternating at a steady pace for the set's time.
Common mistakes
Snapping the elbow straight at full reach: stop just short of lockout. Dropping the waiting hand: it returns to the chest every time. Leaning forward into the punches: stay tall; the arms travel.
Breathing
Exhale with each punch.
