Stability Ball Back Extension with Rotation

The back extension over a stability ball that turns the chest to one side at the top, the arms opening wide; the obliques join the spinal erectors.

How to do it

Setup

Hips and belly on the ball, legs long behind with the feet wide on the floor, torso draped over the ball, arms by the sides.

Steps

  1. Lift the chest until the body forms one straight line.
  2. Turn the chest to one side, arms opening wide.
  3. Turn back to the middle, lower over the ball and alternate sides.

Common mistakes

Arching past the line to turn further: straight is the top; turn from there. Ball rolling out from under you: feet wider and a slower pace. Twisting fast: rise first, then turn, then lower.

Breathing

Exhale rising, inhale lowering.
