Roll Peroneal Side Lying on Floor

Lying on the side propped on the hands, the outer lower leg rests on a foam roller and rolls from above the ankle to below the knee; the outside of the shin loosens.

How to do it

Setup

Lying on one side, propped on the hands, legs long and stacked, a foam roller under the outside of the bottom shin.

Steps

  1. Lift the hips a little and shift the body to roll the outer shin over the roller.
  2. Travel from just above the ankle to just below the knee.
  3. Pause on a tender spot and breathe until it eases, then switch sides.

Common mistakes

Rolling onto the ankle bone or the side of the knee: stay on the muscle between them. Letting the full weight drop on at once: take part of it on the hands. Rolling on the front edge of the shin bone: turn the leg so its outer side meets the roller.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
