Push-Up Hand by Hand

The push-up with one hand placed well ahead of the other; the forward arm works from a longer reach, and the trunk resists the twist.

How to do it

Setup

Plank, one hand under the shoulder, the other a hand's length further forward.

Steps

  1. Lower the chest toward the floor, hips level.
  2. Press back up, pushing evenly through both hands.
  3. Finish the reps, then lead with the other hand.

Common mistakes

Hips turning toward the front hand: brace and keep them square. The forward hand too far out: a hand's length is enough. Always leading with the same hand: switch so both sides work.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale pressing.
