Prone Press-Up

Face down, press the chest up to straight arms while the hips stay on the floor, then lower; a push-up with the legs left out of it.

How to do it

Setup

Face down on the floor, hands flat under the shoulders, elbows in, toes tucked.

Steps

  1. Press the floor away until the arms are straight, the chest rising.
  2. Keep the hips and thighs on the floor throughout.
  3. Lower the chest back down with control.

Common mistakes

Hips lifting off the floor: that is a push-up; keep them down. Pressing into a pinch in the lower back: stop where it stays easy. Elbows flaring wide: keep them close to the ribs.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale pressing.
