Medicine Ball Close-Grip Push-Up

The close-grip push-up with both hands together on one medicine ball; the narrow, unsteady base puts the triceps to work.

How to do it

Setup

Plank position, both hands on top of a medicine ball under the chest, body in one line, feet together.

Steps

  1. Lower the chest to the ball, elbows tracking back along the ribs.
  2. Press back up until the arms are straight.
  3. Keep the ball still under the hands on every rep.

Common mistakes

Elbows flaring out: keep them along the ribs; that is the close grip. Hips sagging: brace so the body stays one line. Ball rolling: press down evenly with both hands.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
