Power Clean

The clean caught above parallel; less mobility needed, more speed required.

Power Clean, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Clean setup: bar over mid-foot, hook grip, flat back.

Steps

  1. Drive and explode at the hips.
  2. Pull under just enough to catch ABOVE parallel.
  3. Stand tall with the bar racked.

Common mistakes

Catching in a full squat: that is the full clean; power means high. Skipping the full extension: hips finish BEFORE the pull-under. Feet jumping wide: they move an inch, not a mile.

Breathing

Breath at the floor, exhale after the catch.
