Posterior Tibialis Stretch

Seated with a band looped round the forefoot, the hands draw the foot toward the shin and turn the sole outward; the inner side of the calf and ankle stretches.

How to do it

Setup

Seated with one leg straight, the band round the ball of its foot, both handles held close to the hips.

Steps

  1. Pull the foot back toward you with the band.
  2. Turn the sole slowly outward until the inside of the calf and ankle stretches.
  3. Hold and breathe, then release and change legs.

Common mistakes

Pulling hard enough to bend the knee: ease the band so the leg stays straight. Turning the whole leg instead of the foot: the knee points up; only the ankle turns. Forcing the turn: stop at a gentle pull on the inner ankle.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
