Posterior Neck Isometric

Standing tall with the fingers laced behind the head, press the head back into the hands and hold; nothing moves, the neck works.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, fingers laced on the back of the head, chin level, elbows forward.

Steps

  1. Press the head back into the hands while the hands press forward.
  2. Match the two pushes so the head stays still.
  3. Build the press gradually and ease off the same way.

Common mistakes

Tipping the head back as you press: the hands match the push so nothing moves. Jamming the full effort in at once: ramp up, ramp down. Holding the breath: breathe through the hold.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
