Pistol Squat to Box

The pistol squat sitting back to a box: the box sets the depth and catches you, a step toward the full pistol.

How to do it

Setup

Standing on one leg in front of a box, the other leg lifted forward, arms reaching ahead.

Steps

  1. Sit back slowly until the hips touch the box.
  2. Keep the free leg off the floor and the heel down.
  3. Stand back up on the one leg without rocking.

Common mistakes

Dropping onto the box: lower all the way under control. Rocking back to get up: lean the chest forward and push through the heel. Box too low for your control: raise it and earn the depth.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
