Old School Reverse Extensions

The bar comes from behind the head in a bent-arm pullover over the face, then the elbows straighten to finish above the chest.

How to do it

Setup

Lying on a flat bench with the head at its end, feet planted, the bar held behind the head near the floor, hands shoulder-width.

Steps

  1. Pull the bar over the face with the elbows bent.
  2. Straighten the arms to finish with the bar above the chest.
  3. Bend the elbows and lower the bar behind the head, stopping short of the floor.

Common mistakes

Starting heavy from the floor: the first pull comes out of a long stretch; pick a light bar. Hips lifting off the bench as the bar comes over: keep them down, feet planted. Bar passing over the face on straight arms: keep the elbows bent until it clears the head.

Breathing

Inhale on each lowering, exhale on each lift.
