Lying Supine Abdominal Breathing
Belly breathing lying on the back: the belly rises under the hands on each slow breath in and falls on the breath out.
How to do it
Setup
Lying on the back, knees bent, feet flat, both hands resting on the belly below the ribs.
Steps
- Breathe in slowly through the nose, letting the belly lift the hands.
- Keep the chest and the shoulders still.
- Breathe out slowly and feel the belly sink.
Common mistakes
Chest rising instead of the belly: send the breath low under the hands. Shoulders lifting toward the ears: let them rest on the floor. Breathing fast: slow, even breaths in and out.
Breathing
Slow and even, in through the nose.
