Kettlebell Open Palm Clean

The two-hand swing finished by letting go of the handle at the top and catching the bell's body between flat palms.

How to do it

Setup

Feet a little wider than the hips, a light kettlebell held by the handle in both hands, clear floor around you.

Steps

  1. Hike the bell back between the legs and snap the hips forward.
  2. As it floats at the top, let go of the handle and clap both palms onto its sides.
  3. Draw it in close, elbows down and the head back.
  4. Take the handle again and let the bell swing back down.

Common mistakes

Letting go before the bell floats: release only at its highest point. Chasing a missed catch: step back and let the bell fall to the floor. Starting with a heavy bell: learn the catch with a light one.

Breathing

Sharp exhale on the hip snap, inhale on the backswing.
