Barbell Clean from Blocks
The clean started from blocks at about knee height instead of the floor; with no swing into it, the hips must accelerate the bar from a dead stop.
How to do it
Setup
Bar resting on blocks, hook grip just outside the legs, shoulders over the bar, back flat.
Steps
- Drive through the whole foot and keep the bar against the thighs.
- Extend the hips hard, then pull under with the elbows up and out.
- Catch in a full front squat, stand, and set the bar back on the blocks.
Common mistakes
Bouncing the bar off the blocks: each rep starts from a dead stop. Arms pulling before the hips finish: the arms stay long until the legs and hips extend. Crashing the bar back onto the blocks: lower it through the hang and set it down.
Breathing
Big breath at the blocks, exhale after the catch.
