Kettlebell Full Swing

The kettlebell swing taken overhead: on the hip snap the bell passes shoulder height and finishes on straight arms above the head, bottom up.

How to do it

Setup

Feet shoulder-width, the bell a step ahead, both hands on the handle, hinged with a flat back.

Steps

  1. Hike the bell back between the legs.
  2. Snap the hips and guide the bell up to straight arms overhead, bottom pointing up.
  3. Let it fall back through the same arc into the next hike.

Common mistakes

Bell flipping over at the top: keep the grip firm and the bottom up, or stop at eye level. Leaning back to get it overhead: ribs down; the hips send it, not the spine. Squatting the backswing: hips back, knees soft.

Breathing

Sharp exhale on the hip snap, inhale on the backswing.
