Half Pigeon Hip Stretch with Arms Overhead

The half pigeon sitting tall, the arms sweeping up until the palms meet overhead; the front hip and the back leg's hip flexor both stretch.

How to do it

Setup

Half pigeon: front shin across the mat, back leg long behind, hips square, hands on the floor by the hips.

Steps

  1. Sit tall and sweep both arms up until the palms meet overhead.
  2. Lift the chest into a small arch, the hips staying square.
  3. Lower the hands to the floor, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Hips tipping toward the front leg: keep both hip points facing forward. Arching from the lower back: lift the chest, not the belly. Front knee complaining: bring the front foot in closer to the hip.

Breathing

Inhale reaching up, exhale lowering the arms.
