Front Squat
The bar sits on the front of the shoulders with the arms crossed over it and the elbows high; squat with an upright torso and stand back up.
How to do it
Setup
Bar across the front delts, arms crossed over it, each hand on the opposite shoulder, elbows up; feet shoulder-width.
Steps
- Squat until the thighs are level with the floor, the torso upright.
- Keep the crossed arms level and the elbows pointing forward.
- Drive up through the whole foot.
Common mistakes
Elbows dropping as you descend: the bar rolls off the shoulders; keep the crossed arms level. Chest folding forward: brace hard and keep the torso tall. Rising hips-first: the bar tips forward; the hips and chest come up together.
Breathing
Big breath at the top, exhale past the sticking point.
