Dumbbell Single-Leg Squat

The single-leg squat with a dumbbell at one side and the free leg forward; to about parallel, not a full pistol.

How to do it

Setup

On one leg, a bell in one hand, the other arm and the free leg reaching forward.

Steps

  1. Sit back until the thigh nears parallel.
  2. Keep the free heel off the floor.
  3. Drive up through the whole foot.

Common mistakes

Bell pulling the shoulders sideways: brace and stay square. Standing knee drifting inward: it tracks over the toes. Free foot tapping down to rescue the rep: shorten the depth instead.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
