Dumbbell Seated Calf Raise

The seated calf raise with a dumbbell on end on each knee and the feet on a plate, so the heels drop below the toes.

How to do it

Setup

Seated, balls of the feet on a plate, a dumbbell upright on each knee.

Steps

  1. Lift the heels, driving the knees and bells up.
  2. Pause at the top, the bells steady.
  3. Let the heels sink past the plate's edge.

Common mistakes

Bells sliding toward the hips: stand them right over the knees. Pressing them up with the arms: the hands only hold them upright. Heels stopping at plate level: let them sink below.

Breathing

Exhale rising, inhale lowering.
