Dumbbell Incline Close-Grip Press Variation

The incline press with one dumbbell squeezed between flat palms over the middle of the chest, the elbows tucked along the ribs; the close path gives the triceps a bigger share.

How to do it

Setup

Incline bench, one dumbbell pressed between flat palms over the middle of the chest, elbows in.

Steps

  1. Lower the bell to the middle of the chest, elbows brushing the ribs.
  2. Keep squeezing the palms into the handle.
  3. Press back up, finishing with the triceps.

Common mistakes

Elbows flaring as the bell comes down: the tuck is the variant. Bell rolling toward the face: keep it over the chest. Palms easing off the handle: squeeze it the whole set.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale pressing.
