Bulgarian Split Squat (Bodyweight)
The Bulgarian split squat with no weight, the hands on the hips; the rear foot on a bench leaves the front leg to do the work.
How to do it
Setup
Standing a long step in front of a bench, the top of the rear foot resting on it, hands on the hips.
Steps
- Bend the front knee and let the back knee drop toward the floor.
- Stop with the front thigh about level, the hands still on the hips.
- Stand back up by pressing the front heel into the floor.
Common mistakes
Bench too high for the hips to drop: pick one about knee height. Front heel lifting at the bottom: shift the weight back over the heel. Front knee caving in: track it over the middle toes.
Breathing
Inhale down, exhale driving up.
