Bodyweight Squat

Squat with the arms out in front as a counterweight; depth and control matter more than count.

Bodyweight Squat, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Feet shoulder-width, toes slightly out, arms free or forward for balance.

Steps

  1. Squat as deep as the heels allow.
  2. Chest tall, knees over the toes.
  3. Stand fully, hips through at the top.

Common mistakes

Heels lifting: sit back more or elevate them slightly while mobility grows. Knees caving: push them out. Speed-bouncing at the bottom: control the turn.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
