Barbell Standing Snatch-Grip Shrug
The barbell shrug in a snatch grip, the hands far out toward the plates, the widest grip a shrug is done with.
How to do it
Setup
Standing tall, bar at the hips, overhand grip wide enough that the bar rests in the hip crease.
Steps
- Shrug straight up with the elbows locked.
- Pause at the top with the chest up.
- Lower slowly to a full hang.
Common mistakes
Grip so wide the shoulders ache: bring the hands in until the bar sits at the hip crease. Bending the elbows at the top: the arms stay locked. Leaning back to finish: stay tall; shorten the range instead.
Breathing
Exhale on the shrug, inhale lowering.
