Barbell Lying Back of the Head Tricep Extension

The lying barbell extension taken behind the head instead of to the forehead; the upper arms tilt back, stretching the long head.

How to do it

Setup

Lying on a bench, bar over the forehead, upper arms tilted back, grip inside shoulder-width.

Steps

  1. Bend the elbows, lowering the bar past the head toward the bench.
  2. Keep the upper arms tilted back at the same angle.
  3. Extend until the bar is back over the forehead.

Common mistakes

Sinking the bar as far as it goes: stop in a deep but controlled stretch. Upper arms swinging forward to lift: hold their angle. Elbows flaring: keep them narrow.

Breathing

Inhale lowering, exhale extending.
