Barbell Banded Romanian Deadlift

The Romanian deadlift with bands running from the bar to the floor; they stretch as you stand, so the top of the hinge is the hardest part.

How to do it

Setup

Bar at the thighs, a band looped from each end down to a low anchor; grip shoulder-width, knees soft.

Steps

  1. Hinge back until the hamstrings pull, bar close to the legs.
  2. Drive the hips through against the bands' rising pull.
  3. Lock out tall, then resist the bands on the way down.

Common mistakes

Bands pulling the bar forward: anchor them straight under the bar. Letting the bands snap you down: lower on your own count. Leaning back to finish against the bands: stand tall, glutes squeezed.

Breathing

Inhale as the hips go back, exhale driving up.
