Barbell Banded Bench Press

The bench press with bands from the bar to the base of the rack; the tension climbs as the bar rises.

How to do it

Setup

Bands from each sleeve to the rack base, equal on both sides, taut at the chest.

Steps

  1. Unrack against the bands and set the bar over the chest.
  2. Lower under control; the bands try to speed the bar down.
  3. Drive up fast and keep pushing as the tension builds.

Common mistakes

Bands of unequal length: the bar tilts; match them. Letting the bands yank the bar down: own the descent. Easing off near the top: the bands add most there; press through.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale on the press.
