Band Hyperextension
A standing hip hinge against a band with handles anchored low in front, held with straight arms; the band pulls hardest as you reach the top.
How to do it
Setup
Facing a low anchor a step or two away, a band handle in each hand, arms straight, feet hip-width, knees soft.
Steps
- Hinge from the hips toward the anchor, back flat, arms long.
- Drive the hips forward and stand tall against the band's pull.
- Hinge back down slowly, never letting the band yank you forward.
Common mistakes
Rounding to reach the anchor: the hinge stops where the back stays flat. Bending the elbows to help: the arms are straight hooks; the hips do the work. Standing too close: the band goes slack at the top; step back until it pulls there.
Breathing
Inhale hinging, exhale standing.
