Band Close-Grip Push-Up

The close-grip push-up against a band across the back; the band pulls hardest at lockout, where the push-up is otherwise easiest.

How to do it

Setup

Band across the shoulder blades, ends under the palms, hands close, body one line.

Steps

  1. Lower the chest to the hands, elbows along the ribs.
  2. Press against the band all the way to lockout.
  3. Lower slowly; the band pulls you down fast.

Common mistakes

Band riding up to the neck: keep it on the shoulder blades. Stopping short where the band bites: finish every lockout. Hips sagging under the pull: brace harder or take a lighter band.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale pressing.
