Roll Ball Tibialis Posterior

Seated with one leg turned out, a massage ball rolls along the inside of the lower calf, where the tibialis posterior lies deep behind the shin bone.

How to do it

Setup

Seated, hands on the floor behind the hips, one leg long and turned out, a massage ball under the inside of the shin above the ankle.

Steps

  1. Lift the hips a little to put weight onto the ball.
  2. Roll slowly up the inside of the calf toward the knee and back down.
  3. Pause on a tender spot and breathe until it eases, then switch sides.

Common mistakes

Ball on the shin bone: set it just behind the bone's inner edge, on the muscle. Pressing hard from the first pass: start with the hips down and add weight slowly. Rolling on through tingling or numbness: move off the spot at once.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
