How to do it

Setup

Bench at 30–45°, eyes under the bar, blades pinched, feet planted; grip a little wider than shoulders.

Steps

  1. Unrack and hold the bar over the upper chest.
  2. Lower under control to just below the collarbones.
  3. Press up and slightly back to lockout.

Common mistakes

Lowering to the belly: the incline moves the touch UP; below the collarbones. Hips lifting off the bench: plant the feet, keep contact. Elbows flared wide: about 45° from the body.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale on the press.
