EZ-Bar Decline Close-Grip Face Press

The decline close-grip press to the face with an EZ bar: the elbows fold as the bar lowers toward the face, then press it back up.

How to do it

Setup

On a decline bench, feet hooked, the EZ bar held close on its inner angled grips over the chest.

Steps

  1. Lower the bar toward the face, letting the elbows fold forward.
  2. Stop just above the face.
  3. Press back up to straight arms over the chest.

Common mistakes

Letting the bar drop onto the face: lower slowly and stop short. Elbows flaring: keep them tucked. Bar drifting to the chest like a bench press: the path ends at the face.

Breathing

Inhale lowering, exhale pressing.
