Barbell Squat (With Hanging Band Technique)

The back squat with plates hung from the bar's ends on bands; the swinging load makes the trunk steady the bar.

How to do it

Setup

Bar on the upper back, a plate hanging from each end on a band loop.

Steps

  1. Squat slowly so the plates do not swing wide.
  2. Keep the bar level as the weights settle.
  3. Stand under control, pausing at the top.

Common mistakes

Moving fast: the plates swing and tilt the bar; slow down. Plates touching the floor at depth: shorten the bands. Loose grip: squeeze the bar hard to stop it rolling.

Breathing

Big breath at the top, exhale past the sticking point.
